This is The Editor’s Log. If you are seeing this page
you either don't have a membership, aren't logged in or have chosen to see it
from the list of available Movie Logs at the bottom of the page. For those
in the first group, please consider setting up a membership and you can have a
page like this too. It will allow you to keep a list of the movies you've
seen including dates, grades, viewing format and a review. If you
choose, you may have your grade and review included on the movie detail page so
others can see it. If you are interested, click on the Help link above and
it will provide you with more detail.
As the editor of Predict The Oscars!, I try
to stay pretty up to date on new releases, particularly during the late fall and
winter. It can't be an accident that many, indeed, most of the movies that
will be nominated for Academy Awards won't be released until the last month or
two of the year. I've read various reasons for this from those purporting
it's because more people are out of school / work to those thinking early
releases will be forgotten by the time nominations are announced. Whatever
the reason, it's seems to hold true.
This means that since about early November, beginning at the St.
Louis International Film Festival, I've been spending considerably more time in
the theatre than I do during the summer and fall. I also begin catching up
on notable early season releases available on DVD. I've been more
impressed with what I've seen this year than I have been in the last few.
I think there are a number of films that will do well both at the box office and
with the Academy. It's nice to see that again.
Anyway, here's what I've been watching recently. |
